Course description:

The emergency department (ED) is certainly the most complex area of care within the hospital. It is an area of complex interactions with multiple providers involved in numerous, interrelated processes with disparate resources. Effectively functioning ED is a responsibility of all the team members, not only the leader. Nowadays emergency physicians must not only focus on competently administered care for the patients, but also on effective resource management, process management, interpersonal and interprofessional communication and conflict management. This course provides essential theoretical knowledge of emergency department management principles.

2. Emergency ultrasound

Course description:

Emergency ultrasound continues to develop and now is one of the key competencies in the clinical practice of emergency medicine. Trauma, abdominal aortic aneurysm, ectopic pregnancy, difficult vascular access, procedural guidance and many other cases in everyday emergency department’s life are dependent on basic ultrasound skills that every emergency physician could use to improve their clinical judgement and faster delivery of care for the patient. The course provides state-of-art theoretical knowledge and practical skills on emergency ultrasound protocols and techniques.

3. Triage in emergency department

Duration: 1 week

Course description:

Triage is a process of prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition so as to treat as many as possible when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately. The ability to quickly gather essential patient information and accurately assign the appropriate triage level is vital to an emergency department’s success. This course is aimed to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills on triage principles.

4. Emergency airway management

Duration: 1 week

emergency physicians

Course description:

One of the most important skills in emergency department is airway management in critically ill patient. From basic airway opening manoeuvers and devices to “cannot intubate cannot ventilate” situations. This course provides participants with up-to-date theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice to ensure effective airway management in various emergency situations.

5. Procedural sedation and analgesia in emergency department

Duration: 1 week

Course description:

Procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) is widely administered by emergency physicians, in order to perform painful or uncomfortable procedures in the emergency department. PSA is associated with possible complications and must be seen as a high risk procedure. For every emergency clinician it is important to ensure the knowledge and skills to safely administer PSA and to treat possible complications. This course provides state-of-art theoretical knowledge and practical skills on how to prepare the patient and the environment to perform safe PSA in emergency department and how to avoid and treat the most common complications related to PSA.

6. Major trauma management: trauma team approach

Duration: 1 week
Target audience:

emergency physicians, surgeons, trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinicians of various specialties providing care in emergency department

Course description:

Major trauma cases in emergency department require a team approach where every member demonstrates both technical and non-technical skills effectively to deliver best possible care for the patient. Trauma team usually brings together physicians of various specialties and it is essential to have the knowledge and tools on how to be effective as a team. This course includes the technical and non-technical skills required to optimise care of this group of patients and is focused on practical learning through simulation.
